If you haven’t heard of our portfolio-building event COLORPOP for photographers – you’re missing out!!! I’m so excited to start blogging each of the 10 photo shoots we organized for our event as a way to share a little bit more of the planning and behind the scenes process. Plus, these shoots were so cool that they deserve to live somewhere other than Instagram.
Colorpop Portfolio Weekend 2022 took place July 22-24 and August 5-7; over these two weekends, 40 photographers of all skill levels and backgrounds traveled from around the world to Utah. This year, our event was more like a retreat – we all stayed together in a big house, ate together, had educational activities in the evenings, and made lifetime friends and connections. Honestly, it felt like summer camp for photographers – and as a retired camp counselor, it was totally my jam. 😉

EVENT: COLORPOP PORTFOLIO WEEKEND
Last year, many of our Colorpop attendees told us that one of their favorite shoots was our close up beauty editorial, so we wanted to make that a priority for this year’s event. For this concept, we wanted the main focus be colorful makeup and florals. Our makeup artists did a variation of ombre and rainbow looks on the models, and we opted for emerald green wardrobe styling for each of them. Ultraviolet Backdrops provided us with the most gorgeous hand-painted backdrops in green in purple shades, which really made the styling pop. This was another concept that was really fun for the photographers who attended, because we provided an assorted of flowers for them to use however they wished – many of them framed the models faces, held them in front of the camera, set them on the tables, hung them from above, and in more fun ways to enhance the composition.
Although this one was a bit more simple than some of our other concepts, it was truly breathtaking to see, like a painting to come to life. Here are some of my own favorite shots from both weekends of our event!
